SUMMARY:2019 Winter Solstice Lantern Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Winter Solstice Lantern Walk at Wingham Brush Nature Reserv
 e is an annual community event held by the Manning River Turtle Conservati
 on Group on or as close to the winter solstice as possible.\n\nThe Lantern
  Walk aims to bring the community together and raise awareness about the e
 ndangered Manning River helmeted turtle (also known as Purvis' turtle). It
  is free\, and is popular with families.\n\nThe event starts at 5.15 pm on
  the banks of the Manning River at Wingham Brush. A short informative talk
  will be presented by a special guest working in research and conservation
  of the Manning River turtle\, after which we will watch the grey-headed f
 lying foxes flying out of their camp in Wingham Brush to feed for the nigh
 t - a spectacular sight.\n\nWe will wait until the majority of the bats ha
 ve left\, so that we do not disturb them in their camp\, and then proceed 
 to wend our way through the Nature Reserve by lantern light\, respectfully
  and quietly.\n\nBYO lantern\, or buy one on the night for $2 (but be awar
 e there are limited supplies).\n\nSTRICTLY NO NAKED FLAMES and NO DOGS ALL
 OWED.\n\nIf you are able\, park your cars at Central Park as the Lantern W
 alk will conclude with a lap around the park.\n\nThe Manning River Turtle 
 Conservation Group is a not-for-profit group auspiced by Manning Valley Ne
 ighbourhood Services Inc.\n\nFunds raised from the sale of lanterns goes t
 oward covering the cost of holding the event\, and to programs for conserv
 ation of the Manning River helmeted turtle.

DESCRIPTION:We are celebrating Threatened Species Week 2020 with a fun ‘c
 raftanoon’ being hosted at the Manning Regional Art Gallery on Sunday\, 
 September 13 from 10.30am to 1.30pm.\nLearn how to create your own Manning
  River turtle hatchling from talented local fibre artist Gemma Cross with 
 needle felting and wet felting techniques. Hear the latest on conservatio
 n of the Manning River turtle from Andrew Steed\, Save Our Species officer
  with the Department of Planning\, Industry and the Environment\, and beco
 me an ambassador for the species by taking part in our Instagram campaign.
 \n\nAt the end of the workshop\, you will have\n\n• a new found apprecia
 tion of one of our local threatened species\, the Manning River Turtle\n\n
 • a turtle to donate to the Manning River Turtle Conservation Group for 
 their school’s education program\n\n• a turtle to keep. We’ll invite
  you to join us in bringing awareness to this amazing animal by snapping p
 hotos of your turtle near rivers and creeks and posting to the Conservatio
 n Groups Instagram page.\n\nBe COVID safe: Bring your own lunch\, cup\, wa
 ter bottle.\nMorning tea and all materials supplied\n\nCost is only $20 as
  the workshop is subsidised by the NSW Department of Planning\, Industry a
 nd Environment.\n\nPlaces are limited and bookings are essential. Book at

  Council\, Manning Valley Neighborhood Services\, Manning River Turtle Con
