About Us
The Manning River Turtle Group is a small group of committed and passionate individuals from the Manning Valley dedicated to helping protect the endangered Manning River helmeted turtle.
About the turtle
The Manning River helmeted turtle (also known as the Manning River snapping turtle and Purvis’ turtle) is endemic to the middle and upper catchments of the Manning River. It was declared an endangered species in April 2017.
Events
From our annual Wingham Winter Solstice Lantern Walk to other special events – see what the Manning River Turtle Group is up to in the local community to raise awareness of the turtle and its environment.
Because of the difficulties COVID-19 restrictions create, instead of holding our annual Winter Solstice Lantern Walk this year, we are instead holding a Winter Solstice Beanie Competition to raise awareness of the Manning River Turtle in our community.
